Going to be patriotic here and say when Ireland beat Romania in penalties in the 1990 World Cup. It was our first time competing at that level and the whole affair was very cagey throughout the match. Penalties were too much to bear: I have no idea how you lot manage with England being in shootouts every other tournament!

I remember vividly when we [England] lost to Portugal in World Cup 2006, that was a good day for me, shame about the result

Err... when Arsenal reached the final of the Champions League. Lost, yeah, but it was a great match.
