No. Not just Tinchy. I have never heard a rapper that doesn't sing reffer to themselves as a singer.

Seriously Leona has went down hill, shes nothing special anymore.

She was amazing back in 2006 when she became a star, now shes just embarressing with all these songs that sound the same and are boring.

People have moved on.
Leona Lewis > N Dubz.

if she is nothing and embarassing why has her album Echo sold over 2x more than N Dubz.. Oh wait

Both sides of the argument here are being absolutely ridiculous.

Most people listen to what is provided for them, myself included. Get off the musical high horse; popular music is popular because it's popular - stop trying to change people's minds, it won't happen, and you're just going to get angrier at other people on here.

On the other hand, some of the people in this thread just listing music they don't like because it's 'old' or are bigging up a talent show PRODUCT - your views are wrong. They might not seem wrong to you, not right now, but in a few years time, you'll realise you were being a bit stupid when you said these things.

Conclusion: popular music is popular for a reason; you will not convince the majority into searching for some individual masterclass that nobody's ever heard of before.

Then you're aware that you're not listening to your music, you're listening to what has been dictated to you by an extremely shallow industry.

Shaun is not a music snob because he seeks new artists. Not only is that riddiculous, it's reverse snobbery of the highest order. So if you don't sit like a gormless ape and suck in what is beamed to you your a music snob?

Get out of town .

Jesus christ, hyperbole, much? You make it seem like climbing everest. Listening to any artist outside the very limited scope of what record execs have choosen as the flavour of the year is not 'searching for some individual masterclass'.

Jesus wept.

Oh. That would really hurt Greg if I was just as committed to taking it personally as you are to sticking fingers in your ears.

Excuse me whilst I go and be superior and dismiss everyone because I've actually bothered to put a creative input into the art I admire.

anyway they write most of their own stuff and are great live so it's not like they're completely ****.

also anyone who thinks that vocal ability is the be-all and end-all of music needs to think again. you all know how much i adore 30 Seconds To Mars and i don't think jared has the ~best voice evurrrrrr!!1111!!. yes, he's a brilliant singer obviously but if you listen to the drums in vox populi or the instruments in L 490, they're incredible.

Shaun's not a music snob because he seeks out new artists, he's being a music snob because he's getting angry at people for following the mainstream. The mainstream is the mainstream, popular is popular, you can't change these things by getting angry at people. On the contrary, I respect Shaun for having such a wide range in musical taste .

I can indeed back that up: popular is popular. You're arguing with, for the most part, teenagers on a forum about popular, trashy culture - you're fighting a losing battle.

For you, arguing with people on here, yes it is like climbing Everest. I don't see why this is such a big issue: surely you expected these kinds of responses?

I'm not even going to try and make you see my point Shaun, you're doing exactly what you just accused me of doing. If you want to hear praise for people who deserve it, don't come looking for it on here, I would have thought you of all people would be aware of that.

If it has a tune and someone singing/rapping over it, its music.

Music is much more accessible nowadays than it was in the late 80s and early 90s when I started buying records...Yes, records. I’m talking about before CDs were widely available.

I used to get my music in an independent record shop in town, and it was mainly vinyl up until the early 90s. The guy who ran the shop had a vast knowledge of music, and would recommend new bands/artists. I also bought music magazines, and found out about new artists there.

Most of my friends did the same. We listened to some of the popular, mainstream music, but most of our records were by artists you’d never hear on TV or mainstream radio.

My family didn’t have satellite TV, the internet wasn’t invented, and access to music was limited to... the stuff you or your friends bought, the stuff you got to preview in the record shop or tapes you bought after a gig.

So for that reason, I seek out new music. I look for bands/artists online all the time. To be honest, it amazes me that a lot of young people nowadays don’t do that. I think it’s such a wasted opportunity when everyone has access to the internet with massive potential to find new stuff, yet so many people are not willing to look.

Maybe if some of you had grown up at the same time as me, and had to go to extreme lengths to get access to unsigned/obscure bands, you’d appreciate how easy it is now.

And if that makes me sound like an old music snob, then so be it.

But you have to have an active interest in music to do that. Some of us don't and are happy with whats in the charts etc. Whilst it might be an alien concept to some, music is not the same to everyone so I think its best to leave people be and listen to whatever they want to. I don't see whats so problematic about that.

I agree. I can completely understand the frustration at some of the responses in here, but not everyone treats music with as great an importance as the likes of Shaun or Stu do; there's no point in getting frustrated at everyone who prefers to listen what's set out for them - if I didn't like it, I would look for things elsewhere, which I've done before, not all of my music is mainstream stuff, but the vast majority of it is. I don't have a problem with that, so I don't see why anyone else should.
