Me again.
Some of you will remember a thread I made regarding a supermarket. In the end, they were being completely unreasonable with me [not backing down in reference to my N.I. card despite my parents, various adults I know with massive job history & the direct.gov site even stating that I didn't need it, yet they wouldn't supply me with a reason why I needed it.. I just 'did'. They also refused to change my induction date from a college day and sorry, but education comes first for me] so I turned them down (I'm not gonna lie, it felt good). Back to job-hunting. I was wondering what advice people had? My father's trying to get me a job at his supermarket but that's not guarenteed. I generally look around our local towns for job vacancies & search gumtree/shop's websites online. Would you suggest I just go around handing out my CV or is there any better methods? I'm in London - if that's any help. Thanks in advance y'all ![]()

I've been told going handing them out is the best way,I've never had the nerve to do so I send loads out,I still havn't got a job though so I'm not much help. Keep an eye on the job sites and an eye out for any job signs in windows when walking around.

I wanted bar work, so I would go to a bar, flirt a little, then ask if there were any jobs, and if there was, then leave my number...or ask cheekily when I started

I've been considering bar work and I've applied for a few & went to a couple of interviews. My mate did suggest shoving a photo on my CV and taking it around Soho (massive gay part of London) and flirt around but I'd have thought employers would've been put off by that.

Also, as much as people dont advise it...make your CV colorful. I made the title bits on mine bold and pink...it stands out more. If you want bar work, being very forward, and cheeky is the best way to get a job. Believe me. |

i would suggest you to write cover letters and mail your CV. Not talking about email, but postal mail. Send it to every bar in area you want to work. Also job center plus has good jobs.
If you are looking for factory work, then it wont be difficult to get. Just call them directly and they usually will ask you to come for a chat.

Saw this last night and asked my boss about it today to try and get some tips for you (I work on the counter in a cafe). She said that the best thing to do is to make sure that you don't ring up or just email the company. Always go in yourself and make sure that you seem interested in the job. I work a lot with the customers and she always said that when she hired me for dishes she always liked my friendliness and my welcome personality so decided to promote me as counter coverer - covering breaks and that for the main counter person. Then she promoted me again to be on the counter all of the time. So if you're going for a job that requires working with people, try and make yourself seem welcoming. Hope you're successful

Ah Lewis you're amazin! thanks so much, that's fantastic advice - will definitely take that on board.
I can understand the advantage of working for free, however I kinda really need money. Then again, I suppose the experience will help in the long-run.
