Smile whats better university or a job ?

morning tibb message board. this was on the news this morning and the joe has a problem with all the people that go and waste 10 - 20 years studying and leave no better off. in no way am i saying uni is bad for people dedicated i.e doctors - law- medical eyt etc.

did anyone on here go to uni and how was your exsperince ? did it get you where you were going ?

whats better university or a job ?

the Joe is now going to confirm my study,
because the degree i got left my brain bloody.
from a young age i started this course,
everything was lay-ed on and payed for, even my dinners and sauce.
was there any gain, did i benefit,
or am i only paying off labours deficit.
the poetry study was by first my worst decision,
it cut off all my aspirations and left me with divisions.
it did not pay from crime studies to a joke,
all round the Internet i read "the Joe's a funny bloke."
but if you are someone who can live owing,
then university will for sure leave you glowing.
waste 10 or 20 years from courses on punctuation to studying food,
society is footing the bill, don't worry you are rude.
this whole set up is wrong, as my poetry to is a disaster,
get out and get a job like me and be a true UK master.

I don't know what your little poem is about, but I think University is silly.

You will get in debt and probably be no where better off.

Lots of people want to go for the fun too which are the wrong reasons.

My son decided not to go to university after his A'levels and to my initial dismay he opted for a job in a large store in London's west end. Now after just 3 years, at age 21, he is Manager of his own store, whilst his friends who have now graduated are still looking for work, and have massive debts.

Too many graduates, many with useless degrees that employers don't want, are chasing too few jobs.

After I did my highers, I decided to take a year off before going to university as a)I was sick of education etc and b)I did not know what I wanted to study, it seemed a lot of people were opting for degrees in things that either sounded good or their parents wanted them to do.

Anyway, I got myself a job, started earning money, saw all my friends with no money and then found it very difficult to actually want to go back to being a poor student.. So I didn't bother. Do I regret it? No, not in the slightest! When I see the debt students have to get themselves into and how many of them haven't got great jobs, I'm glad I stuck to working.

Some people I know who have great jobs have very little in the way of qualifications, but have managed to work their way up to a better position through sheer hard work and commitment.

I still have it in my mind that one day, when both my little uns are at school, I may give teaching a go, but I still don't know.

Imo the problem is so many degrees taken now are not vocational so don't lead on to the start of a career which they used to. It can only lead to more and more graduates being unemployed. I was talking to a young lad recently, who originally had said he didn't want to go to Uni but has now changed his mind and his exact words to me where 'well it puts off working for 3 years' - so whats the point!!

We've got a lot in common, I too have two sons and one was managing his own shop at 19yrs. And he hated school and was written off by many teachers. Its the character and determination of the person that counts so much and not everyone is academic but they are equally capable
