Default Do shock tactics work for you?

The images they now show of rotting lungs on cigarette packets? The adverts of kids dead after being hit by a car going at 40MPH instead of 30? The slumped photos of someones dead daughter or son with a needle stuck out of their arm released by their parents to try and stop others doing the same.....

Does it make you stop/think twice? Do 'shock tactics' work?

I know it did for me. At school we were shown all kinds. Not nice but I never took anything

Oh and no, I'm not judging anyone. People can do as they like as far as I'm concerned. I'm no saint. But would like thoughts. Waste of time or worth it?

Dont work on me. With the ciggy packets, I look and if its the throat one I have a bit of a whinge, but ultimately it does nothing

I've only seen them on the adverts but I did think most smokers wouldn't give a crap

Doesn't affect me that much, I've never been inclined to do anything with a needle so I dont really need to see someone dead to put me off. I dont drive yet either but I would hope that I would be drive safely just because of common sense rather than because of the little girl in the "you hit me at 40..." ad

Yes they work. Go for a day with the police motorway patrol and see a car crash close up, smell death

you will always drive better after that

Not really, I already know the consequences.

If anything, they can be a bit insensitive imo.

I think smokers know and accept the personal health risks associated with the habit. I think the only ads on packets that might be apt to have some impact are:
  • Ones targetted at women smoking during pregnancy "Smoking while pregnant can damage your unborn child"
  • Ones suggesting harm to others "Passive smoking damages the health of those around you" (tho the passive smoking research is so dodgy that it has undermined the case)
  • Picture ones which show damaged gums and blackened teeth (to play upon the vanity concerns of smokers)
As an aside - at the street markets you can buy daft stickers to overlay the government warnings - ones which say "Smoking is Cool", "Live Fast Die Young", etc. Kind of a silly 2 fingered salute to the nanny state.

Shock Tactics do work

We need more in FullHD and in 3-D HD

Not really, I might think about it for that moment, but not long after.
