Angry I ****ing hate paying for a TV license

So pissed off right now.

To start with, noone in my house watches anything on any BBC channels, and also dont listen to BBC radio. The only time BBC ever gets watched is if Gavins mam is here and watches eastenders. So thats 30 mins or so every fortnight...but she pays her own TV license anyways, and obviously her TV isnt being watched when shes here, so that whole 30 mins is covered anyways I dont see why we should HAVE to pay for a channel we dont even watch.

But now, Gavs mam is here, trying to watch eastenders and the ****ing channel wont even work Its not our box, because every other channel is working perfectly fine.

We also were late paying for the TV license that we dont even need, and got a red letter threatening a debt collector, and about 5 phonecalls within the space of 2 hours...for the sake of £18. I mean...seriously? Go and **** yourselves, useless greedy ****ing bastards

(On a side not, even though I am moaning, I paid the ****ing 18 quid that they were so desperate for, cba with bailiffs and **** )

Your TV licence doesn't just cover the BBC, it's for for all the broadcasting equipment for all digital channels, if you don't like it put your TV in the bin and don't pay it.

LOL. Should have known Id get some snarky answer

--

All of this content – and the television channels, radio stations and online spaces where audiences can find it – is paid for by the licence fee, allowing BBC's UK services to remain free of advertisements and independent of shareholder and political interest.

Whats that about then? ^

I would much prefer BBc to just put adverts on tbh. They have a load of adverts between their shows anyways, even if it is advertising other shows instead of products

Really? I thought it was only down to the BBC channels, who don't bring in money via advertising on their channels.

Having problems at home with money too at the moment. Tax credits have stopped the money for about 7 weeks now because of a problem on their computers so 4 of us have been living off of basically £100 a week. They've been no help and have just said that they can't do anything about it yet. Now all of the bills are coming out again and because mum had to use her savings to pay the bills last month, this month she's gonna struggle even more but still no help. She's hoping that the money will come through within the next 3 weeks and that the backdate it all so that she has a lump sum and can put money back into her savings again. Have had to help myself with shopping etc these past few weeks and probably gonna have to chip into holiday spending money this week. Not really related to TV license but still, a rant about money and the fact that they've let it drag on for what could possibly be 3 months.

It does pay for that, but they are also repsonsibly for all the transmitters around the country so our TV licences go towars that too.

In my view, this is the one thing I will begrudge every pence of paying once I finish Uni and leave home. It is ridiculous in this technological age to have to pay for to be able to watch something like TV.

Maybe in the dark ages when TV first came out it made sense, not today though. The political party no matter which one it is that one day says it will get rid of this stupid extra tax will get my vote.

I think it totally wrong to have to pay a TV licence in the UK just for the privilege, and I use the word loosely, for the BBC. No matter how it's dressed up without the BBC demand for the licence we would not have to pay one.

I will begrudge every single pence of it when I have to pay it.

A "TV license" doesnt just cover the beeb, it covers having possession of any equipment that can be used for viewing TV broadcasts, throwing out the TV and watching online, you still need a licence to cover you.

Moneys raised also fund non BBC broadcasting as well such as S4C.

If you dont want to pay it dont pay it, but dont buy any new equipment that can receive live broadcast programs, or if you do dont use your home address when buying it.

Wrap you TV and computer in at least three layers of a decent tin foil ogh and your sky box/freeview box etc.

They wont catch you then

never had to pay it and never would. I only watch The apprentice on iplayer. I'd happily watch it elsewhere. No BBC TV or radio. So yeah, get stuffed with your Licence fee.

actually not much. I usually catch up on internet channels.

and anyways, I don't believe that the licence fee covers all channels. They fund themselves with commercials. Regardless, there is no justification in this day and age to FORCE everybody to buy this licence. It's outdated nonsense.

The discussions as to it are always with the BBC, only the BBC advertise it on their channels no other channel does. If the BBC was commercialised like ITV the licence would go and 'no one' would have to pay one.
The BBC even oversees the TV Licensing place too.

The licence fee pays for the upkeep and installation of the transmitters around the country, do you think the TV fairy just does it for free whilst we all sleep?

The point is we should not have to in this day and age pay for a licence to watch TV and all those transmitters etc could be paid for out of advertising revenues if the BBC was forced to take commercial advertising on its channel.

No need for a Licence then.

I have edited this, I could think of a very good word for the extra B I put in originally as to the BBC though

OK then, from what people have said in this thread...part goes to the BBC and the other part to upkeep of other stuff. I do not mind paying for the upkeep of transmitters etc. as I DO use them, but I do object to having to pay(even part) for the BBC.

Plus, what annoyed me more is actually the way they behaved over a measly £18 which had just been overlooked anyways, for the past year or so I have never even been late on a payment, much less missed one completely. Surely they have better things to do than chase people for pennies?

You don't watch anything on the BBC? Really? What do you watch?

Doctor Who, Mock the Week, QI, BBC News, Newsnight, Question Time, Prime Minister's Questions, The Summer Proms, Torchwood, Top Gear, Horizon, The Sky at Night, the list goes on and on.

Radio 3 and BBC Parliament wouldn't exist without the license fee. There used to be a parliament channel before the BBC, but they gave up funding it and the BBC tookover. Classic FM? Not in a million years does that provide the variety of Radio 3. Not to mention Radio 4...

Nope, none of those...

Nothing thats on BBC...as I said. Most of the stuff I watch is on c4 and e4.

And on the rare occasion I listen to the radio (which is usually only in someones car ) I listen to galaxy.
