I think this article sort of illustrates how morals have changed in society these days, apparently if it 'sells' it's good enough.

You don't really see traditional cards/calendars now though. We used to have a small local shop run by a muslim guy and he was the only one who sold the religious cards with the nativity scene etc. Bit ironic lol.

I remember when I was quite young, getting a church card from my aunty. I was gutted because my little sister who was about a year old got a lovely big glittery snowman card...while I had this little brown thing with black writing and a nativity scene on the front

Till then, if retailers want to sell cards that people want to buy: then I don't have any issue with that at all. People spend their own money on what they want to spent it on. If that isn't religious cards: so be it. It's their money. |

You can hardly equate the two, but demand and supply is just the basic rule of economics, and it's the reason for the Christmas card imbalance

I remember that Christmas I received a card with a knob joke and immediately wanted to see someone hanged

It seems to me that the unwritten point of the article is that society seems to have such low moral fibre these days. We prefer obscenity to religion.
Maybe I'm being prudish but it concerns me where it's all going. |

If you wanted to approach this from a Christian morality point of view, but most do not. The fact that a few posters have said they find Religious cards more offensive than obscene ones shows the subjectivity of morality

It does as far as the economy is concerned - as long as the products are legal and allowed to be sold openly, and taxable. If we had no thriving businesses - products that people wanted to buy - where on earth would the country be then?

I think we could live without obscene christmas cards if it were necessary tbh. The economy and profitability are being used here as an excuse for immorality imo. Still, people are free too choose whatever they like.

I don't. They bring a bit of fun, cheer, giggles and jolly good fun to many people. Not everyone is religious - but many still celebrate Christmas in the modern day way. There are far more immoral things going an all around us - every day of the week - Christmas is but one day a year - I really don't see it being any issue. I'm guessing most folk don't otherwise there would be a huge public outcry and uproar -and there isn't. |

But most dont want to, as they dont see trivial things like a humorous xmas card...rather than a boring nativity scene... as such a big deal ![]() |

Flip the coin, I dont like getting the religious cards. Should I be moaning on and saying people should/could live without them and bringing morality into it?! Nah of course not. Just I personally would rather not receive them.
