I gave up smoking 4 days ago it is hard going but after 20 years I decided now was the right time for me to stop.

There have been some wonderful comments on here about people stopping - I wish it was that easy. Nicotene is one of the most addictive drugs in the world so it is no easy task to just give up. I am wearing patches and using an inhalator but it is still hard going.

You have to be really ready to stop to succeed - I am using every support available including smoking cessation group and family support and encouragment. That said who knows what tomorrow will bring so I am taking it one day at a time as a current non smoker!!

Ooo I really don't mind never smoked and I don't intend to (cos I'm scared of fire and I don't want stinky breath!) but if anyone here smokes that's their choice it must be really horrible to be addicted and it isn't really right to talk about it cos people might be upset

I became asthmatic when I was a little baby because of a woman who was sitting next to my mum on the ferry from France to England. She smoked the entire time, the ferry was packed and my mum was exhausted. So I just breathed in all this smoke into my lungs, and apparently this triggered my asthma. So, in effect, passive smoking gave me asthma. Which is why I am so deeply against smoking. Whenever I walk past someone smoking in the street, I hold my breath and count to five after I've walked past them. Then I breathe again. I really hate it, I do not understand what the attraction is. People KNOW what it does to you. Anyone pleading ignorance is lying. We've all seen the TV campaigns, and we all know about the lung cancer. And yes, I know it's addictive, but why bother in the first place? It's expensive, deadly and the withdrawal symptoms are terrible!
