I used to get told off all the time for kicking a football at the wall. Never listened.... Kids will be kids. At least he's not going out chucking bricks at windows.

..well ..I can imagine it is irritating to hear the ball..but I think the reaction was completely over the top..he hadn't damaged any property..and going to the park alone wasn't an option..and he was playing at a reasonable time of day...I think weighing everything up..the child's safety and need for the mother to keep an eye on him is much more impotant than irritated neighbours..it's not as if he damaged any of their property

...I wonder how the neighbours would feel if Bertie went to the park and something happened to him........
...or maybe he should just stay indoors

I think the whole thing is way over the top.if called the Police sadly have to follow things up but this is really wasting their time.

Annoying it may be, a ball being kicked off a wall for a good while but as long as it's through the day and not at night then I think some tolerance has to be the order of the day.
In my opinion being so protective as to Children, becasue I have so many Nephews and Nieces, I would far rather children be kicking a ball where they could be seen and heard than somewhere where they may end up bumping into very unsavoury characters.

So far, football damage to my property has cost me £1200, which I cannot claim off the "vandals" or my own insurance policies. The police have been very helpful and have advised me that I have done the right thing in contacting them since several other residents have, too - thus confrontations and arguments between neighbours have been avoided and the police get a "feel" for the nature and scale of the problem - in their turn they have sent PCSO's to the street to address the problem "generally", both by presence and by interaction, which has helped to reduce the potential for aggression and retaliation .....

My sentiments exactly. Not everyone wants to hear other people's children.

On topic...as annoying as it may be, if the kid wants to play football and kick a ball he's entitled to do so. I can't stand the noise but I'd still support his right to do what he's doing. Much rather him be doing that than throwing bricks through windows like InOne said.

...I guess I'm surprised at some of the views..I'm not saying that it wouldn't be annoying..but for me the alternatives are worse..being kept indoors or allowed to go to the park..but I suppose people see things mostly by how it affects them..that's just human nature

..and..I'm only going by what is said in the article..there's no mention of previous nuisance or damage to any property..so I'm assuming that's not the case..and this reaction..from the neighbours and police seems OTT..I think the police..or someone..should act as mediators..try to help the families reach a compromise..because here there doesn't seem any solution at all

Why does this woman think her son is above the law?

Lock them up and chop up the key before throwing it away

..I just never feel comfortable with these kind of 'anger' actions..when people act on things when they are highly irritated..and I've we've all done it at times..when we've just had enough..but with me..I usually regret it afterwards..it's always best to take a back step..calm..and think things through..and try to see it from the otherside too..and see if a compromise is possible..and I don't know if that was done in this case or how long it was going on..but it doesn't 'read' like it did
..I know I'm on a different page to most..and I'm sure I would have had entirely different views when I was younger and didn't have children..and I'm not pulling any age card..because I'm not saying my view is the right one..it's just a different one..it has to be different because I see it in another way..from another angle...I get irritated with young children over some things..but my irritations don't mean they shouldn't be allowed to be children..and do what children do..make a bit of noise..

..waffle..waffle...waffle

This thread's starting to bug me a bit
