I liked the start of it, but it felt a bit like a quiz, and then I got a bit bored.

I think he did exactly what he set out to do. I can see his staff with their heads in their hands over the Magna Carta thing, but apart from that I think he held his own. Even slipped in the fact that we burnt down their White House before we left and surprisingly got a round of applause for it. Perhaps they had a lot of Canadians in.

agreed, call me dave came across quite well, he was relaxed, prime ministerial, yet humourous and the fact he didnt know everything actually made him appeal more to the audicences..... boris was pretty funny on there too, at one point managing to call brits fat, but yanks a bit fatter, a quick toussling of his hair and the crowd soon forgave him

Actually, I really like Americans and have lots of American friends. What's more, apart from many visits to New York, I have lived and worked there. And Chicago. And Denver with a short spell in Washington DC. so you're way off with your latest set of insults. And for your information, Letterman's audiences are made up of a large amount of tourists from all over the US and further. I've been to one of his shows. You can sign up for tickets just off Time Square... in case your interested.

I remember you saying your Brother lives there. I remember Ricky Lake, but only from telly, I never went to the show or anything. I was just wandering up Broadway one day and a girl with a clipboard asked if I wanted to register for tickets for Letterman. I thought, why not...? They called me about an hour later to say I had a ticket. The way things go, it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out we were at the same show LOL...

it wasnt a major issue, but it was yet another predictable rehashed anti american joke, the usual one we brits trot out every time we spew about the americans. theyre thick , they dont get irony like us sophisticated brits, they had to get canadians in the understand the humour etc if it was a one off joke id let it pass, its the same joke all day every day from the vast majority of brits on tv. we seriously need to change the narrative... we brits seem to spew this predictable drivel every time an american is in the building. it was funny in 1980 , it aint funny no more..its boring, its predictable, its embarassing and it comes across as mean spirited...

meanwhile the americans have continued to produce endless legendary comics, comic actors, long running classic comedies and virtually all the best comic movies. sorry but its true. meanwhile we claim to own irony,.....taking the p*ss is ok up to a point but sometimes it comes across as mean and nasty. americans like dave letterman last so long because , not only because hes funny, very quick witted and likeable, but also because the joke is often on himself. letterman is great, conan is great, carson was great, dick cavett was great and leno is always very good. we should realise the americans are top in this field with a bit of humility look at what we could learn from them

It was quite a good interview actually but an easy one for him, he wasn't really challenged on anything difficult or uncomfortable but I guess Letterman's more of an entertainment show than a politics one. Can't imagine Ed coming across as well either tbh

I like how pleased he looks with himself at about 16 minutes when the audience give him a big clap after what he said about TV advertising too

You know what thats called? A friendly rivalry. We take the piss out of Americans and burgers ect. they take the piss out of our tea and teeth. I really wouldnt dig into what you see us British people say to Americans on the internet.

If you need to compare the friendly rivalry to other countries?

France = Frogs legs and snails
Spain = Cheap booze and bulls

im light but thanks for caring yeah u can take one snatch line from billy to try and make out americans dont get comedy, but its BS, but guess what, hes lived there for decades and loves it and they love him. he soon became beloved, he married an aussie . american, hes sold out across new york and beyond, they loved him, hes also starred in umpteen american shows and many movies too...look at anthony hopkins, they made the great man mayor of his town....the yanks are mostly very welcoming to us brits. on the whole , from those ive met too i think theyre great warm fun friendly people , especially new yorkers, what a magical town

I can assure you that the USA has, per head of capita, about an equal number of idiots to the number we have in Britain. Travelling has taught me that people are pretty much the same wherever you go, good and bad in equal measure.

really? so why did brits get so offended when jerry seinfeld took the p*ss out of the royal wedding? and they did.the tv presenters and journalists went berserk. we can laugh at ourselves but were not willing for yanks to do it.

funny is only funny if 1) theres a ring of truth to it 2) theres a ring of warmth to it. if theres neither , then its not funny its mean
