Default For anyone with a smartphone...

get this app k

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/slee...&affId=1736887

It's so cool I've used it two days running so far and I've woke up feeling better than I usually do! And it's interesting to see the different stages of sleep you went through.

There's a free version but I can't find it online, just search for it on the App Store though.

Is it just an Apple app or is it on Android?

Well that tells you something all the reviews I've seen are overwhelmingly positive and I've found it good so far, obviously a longer time frame is needed for me to be able to accurately judge it but even just being able to see the different stages of sleep you went through is interesting enough for me.

I never get enough sleep, never sleep at the right time and all sorts, so whilst searching stuff about sleep the other day stumbled across this and thought I'd give it a try, hopefully with it telling you how efficient your sleep was, I might be able to sort myself out

im not sure if this is the same one my friend showed me... his one told him what time he went to sleep and woke up, showed him times that he woke up during the night and if he had a drink that night it would show him the differences between a sleep with no alcohol and a sleep with alcohol.. was pretty interesting

It wakes you up slowly. If you set it for 7am it will begin to wake you up at half six.

Apparently you feel better for being woken up slowly than abruptly.

It uses the iPhone's accelerometer (which basically powers movement and knows its position in the air...like you know in a game when you move it and the action on the screen will move, well that's what the accelerometer powers I think). You lay it screen face down on the bed near to you, and it'll pick up on the tiniest of movements through the mattress that you make during the night and analyse the stages of sleep you're in through that (as I think during REM/deep sleep your body and muscles are essentially paralysed and you make little movement).

Basically you go through 4/5 stages of sleep during a night (and that cycle is repeated several times every 90 minutes), ranging from awake, light sleep to REM (rapid eye movement, which is the stage where generally you dream) which is deep sleep. The problem with most standard alarm clocks is that it'll wake you up regardless of what stage of sleep you're in, and if you're in the middle of REM you'll end up feeling very tired and groggy, if you're out of REM and are woken up while 'awake'/in light sleep you'll wake up feeling refreshed. So the app is meant to work out when you're in the lightest possible stage of sleep, and then wake you up then.

From the app's website:

Quote:
Sleep Time by Azumio is an alarm clock that monitors and analyzes your sleep cycles to wake you up in the lightest sleep phase, allowing you to wake feeling rested and relaxed. Utilizing the iPhones accelerometer, Sleep Time by Azumio, senses your subtle movements throughout the night and graphs your sleep cycles.

Everyone goes through a number of deep sleep and light sleep phases during the night. Depending on the phase you are in when you are woken, you either feel relaxed and rested or tired and irritable. Sleep Time by Azumio monitors your sleep phases and will alert you during a 30- minute window that you define at your lightest sleep cycle ensuring you feel great every morning.
And these are the five stages of sleep everyone goes through for anyone interested:

http://psychology.about.com/od/state...leepStages.htm

Fascinating.

Why would you download an app instead of setting your alarm half an hour earlier?
