Default Do Cats have extra-sensory perception?

I put this in serious debates cos it is kind of serious.

Basically whenever I'm sad or really down it seems like my cat always comes and lies beside me (I'm talking about at night) when usually she sleeps downstairs.

If I didn't know any better it's almost like she knows something's up. Does anybody else have anything similar with your cats? Dogs even?

if you change your behavior then yes, your pets will notice. i don't think that's really ESP though.

Remember the Boxing Day tsunami? All the animals and wildlife made their way inland and into the hills long before it happened whilst us humans stood on the shore and filmed the unusual happenings in the water... I'm fairly sure all animals have some sense that we don't have.

no, the animals noticed other animals fleeing. it's like a mob effect. animals are not psychic. seriously listen to how stupid that sounds.

there is no such thing as ESP or psychics. in humans or animals. (yes i know humans are technically animals but you know what i mean)

Animals are not spiritual or psychic or have ESP.

i do like this song though...

They weren't fleeing during the tsunami.. They fled long before it happened. Hardly any animals died that day.. Hundred of thousands of humans died.

Doesn't take long for someone to start mocking the opinions of other members.

I'm not surprised few people choose to post in the debate section.

Not that Lee even said they are psychic. There's a lot we don't know about animals maybe they notice differences in air pressure/ground movements etc.

It's still some form of perception.

I also watched an amazing programme quite recently about dogs who work with people who live alone and suffer from fits etc.. The dogs can warn them when they have an attack coming on.

Oh and Alex is my buddy.. He doesn't offend me

when i said mob effect i'm saying that there are very small creatures who would notice the difference first, and of course the animals that prey on those smaller creatures notice, and it's like a dominoes effect, humans don't pay much attention to animals.

seriously, do you think animals have psychic abilities? and if they do, why don't they rise up[ against humans, if they have that kind of power surely they would use it to advance themselves. I'm sure animals notice things that we wouldn't notice, but that's not really ESP.

His comment wasn't offensive, I just meant in the context of putting people off having their say.

Yeh I'm really interested in why dogs seem to be aware of a persons mood or attack before they exempt physical signs.

Some dogs can smell cancer in people, so i guess technically they have an "extra sensory perception" because they have a different sense of smell, and they can smell the rotting and mutating flesh. Just like police dogs can smell drugs in a car that humans can't smell.

but when most people use the term "ESP" they are talking about being psychic. Animals are not psychic.

It's something else. I used extra sensory perception as a broad term rather than something long like "do cats seem to notice when you are sad or depressed"

If people want to put forth the proposition that cats can mind read or have pre-cognitive abilities then they are most welcome. I don't personally believe they can understand our thoughts but I am curious as to what connection domestic animals seem to have with humans that we don't seem to be able to comprehend.

Interesting topic Kyle :-)

I definitely think cats and dogs pick up on things, rabbits on the other hand do not lol.

I think it's perhaps a form of empathy, my dog used to always know when I was sad and my cat who is a new addition always comes to sit with me when I'm upset.

but your behavior changes when you are sad or upset, so of course they notice. it has nothing to do with ESP, it's just your pets noticing that their food source is acting strangely.

Your pets are reliant on you, completely dependent on you. If you start acting strange they start worrying if they are gonna get fed on time. That's completely natural and doesn't require any kind of ESP.

I did t say it was ESP, exactly that's the point they have the ability to pick up on it and try to comfort you. I have two bunnies and they don't share this same quality that cats and dogs do, and I'm sure other animals.

It's something that seems to spring up specifically with cats and dogs. I wonder if this why they've made such popular domestic animals.

I didn't say you did, i'm just referring to the topic of this thread which is all about animals having ESP. shame on me for staying on topic.

the bunnies are probably more isolated from you than the cats and dogs, right? so they don't even interact with you that much, so they wouldn't notice a difference if they are in a hutch most of the time.

Whether or not he's your 'buddy' is not the issue, you can't reaffirm your point by negating others.
I agree that animals are sensitive to seismic and atmospheric pressure maybe ans that causes them to act differently.
As SM said the extra sensory perception was to do with himself personally, at no point did he infer his cat was psychic.

No they live in my house, sleep in my bedroom every night with me. I've actually noticed this before like when I've been feeling sorry for myself and wanted a cuddle from them they don't notice haha.
