Default 'Friday Night Lights' movie could be crowdfunded, says Brian Grazer

Brian Grazer has said that a new Friday Night Lights movie is still in the works.

The producer, whose Imagine Entertainment made the original 2004 movie and its subsequent TV series, revealed that the fresh film spinoff could utilise the crowdfunding model recently used by Veronica Mars and Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here.

"We made a terrific feature with Peter Berg, turned it into a terrific TV series and will now make a movie from that series," Grazer told Deadline. "I'm not sure such a thing has been done before."

Berg and Friday Night Lights series writer Jason Katims were working on a script to revive the football drama for the big screen as recently as last year.

The story is said to focus on the lives of football coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his wife Tami (Connie Britton) after they leave Texas.

Time for them to get Saracen and Smash on board

It wasn't really that big over here at the time, they have only just recently aired the whole series on Sky Atlantic

Outside of Coach and his wife, Saracen, Julie and Riggins are the only ones that are definitely needed.

Would be a bit unrealistic if they brought everyone back, unless Coach goes back to Dillon

Smash needs to make a Cameo where he comes and sees coach or something, he was a pretty big character in the first 2 seasons it would be fitting

Friday Night lights was great, the movie, and the tv show. It really shows you what football means, to whoe communities, in the United States, from high school, to college, to the pros. Another I would recommend, is Remember The Titans.

Anyways, I think these people do exploit the passion of fans, into remaking, or making movies. I know, its their money, but some people are so much into it, they cannot help themselves. I would understand, if they got a share of the profits, but they dont. I think, its a terrible trend.

Movie is officially dead.

Quote:
Friday Night Lights is sure to go down in history as one of the greatest TV dramas of all time, but fans have been clamoring for just a bit more since the NBC show’s series finale in 2011. Executive producer Peter Berg and many FNL castmembers have been teasing the possibility of a Friday Night Lights movie for the past few years now. Though the show initially began as a spinoff of Berg’s Billy Bob Thornton-fronted 2004 film of the same name, this proposed new film would follow Kyle Chandler’s Coach Taylor and Connie Britton’s Tami Taylor.

Steve recently had a chance to speak with Berg in anticipation of his upcoming feature directorial effort Lone Survivor, and during the course of their conversation he provided an update on the status of the Friday Night Lights movie by saying it’s most likely not going to happen. Hit the jump for more.

Speaking with Steve, Berg revealed that the Friday Night Lights movie probably won’t come to fruition, adding that his feelings on the prospect of the movie have changed:

“There’s not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t; I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen.”

While fans understandably want to spend more time with the Taylors, Friday Night Lights ended on a pitch perfect note with its series finale, which felt like a very fitting sendoff for the characters. Chandler had been a bit more apprehensive about the prospect of a FNL movie than some of the other cast members, and it would appear that Berg has now come around to the same line of thought.
