Default 1950's Ireland Single Mothers were Sinners had to give up their child

From a Debate
on Radio 5 live 20mins ago

[Philomena was one of thousands of Irish
women sent to convents in the 1950s and 60s,
taken away from their homes and families
because the Catholic church said single mothers
were moral degenerates
who could not
be allowed to keep their children.]

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandst...rch-sold-child

Thousands of young single mothers
were sent to a Evil Catholic care home for mothers,
their children
at the age of 3 were then given or sold away to other nations,

The Film from the book
that won a bafta
is now getting more contacting for the records
of single mothers for to find the Mothers

The Last Catholic Care home closed
in 1990

I think Spain did the same things. It's a church thing, not a nationality thing.

Yes but In "This Case" it became a film about Ireland (from a book)
that has brought in more people trying to find mothers

I watched something about this in a film called 'The Magdalene Sisters', Nuns were really cruel individuals anyway a lot of the time but that film showed a pretty good insight to these so called Magdalene Laundries and the bad treatment of what was in the main innocent women.

Awful to think what happened to some of them, many of them there, never tried for anything wrong but almost sentenced to a life of being institutionalised in these awful places.
For this too the Church has a lot to answer for as to the brutal and heartless treatment of the women sent to these Nuns.
As well as abuses of them by the Priests too.
