Default Maintenance loan

I'm not gonna move out for uni, I don't wanna go into that discussion now but after thinking it through deeply, considering a lot things (e.g. in relation to my course) and speaking to a lot of friends & family who are or have been to uni, i've realised it's the right option for me.

But I just wanna know, would it be dumb for me to take out a maintenance loan for my first year considering I'm staying with my parents? I'm moving house in the next few months & we'll be renovating it too so my mum and dad have enough on their plate in terms of keeping up with costs, they would give me money if I asked but I rather not be an extra burden on them

It would help me with paying for travel & costs as well as leave me a decent amount to have fun with, and maybe pay for driving lesson idk. But would taking out a loan just for those reasons be worth it in the long run along? I mean I don't really see it making a difference to the large sum I'll already be owing. But idk what if a maintenance grant is enough for me? #confused

I don't know exactly what I'm entitled to yet as I haven't finished the student finance stuff, so just think of it in general terms

It depends really if you parents can afford to help you out and if you are able to get a p/t job (again), if they can't and you can't then you may have to. My advice would be to try and avoid it so you reduce the debt you come out with at the end but it really depends on your parents circumstances.

If you can avoid taking on extra debt then that's what you should do, I wouldn't advise taking out a loan if you're living at home because that in itself helps reduce costs.

I guess in the grand scheme of student debt it won't make a massive difference, and it will enable you to do a lot more stuff and be more independent, might as well take advantage of interest free loans while you can

Even if you are staying home, travel costs around london and nights out are going to add up greatly. Depends if you think you can get/manage a job along with your studies really. I would get it anyway.

I quite liked Uni of Lincoln and a lot of my mates go there but I purposely didnt choose it because it was still in Lincolnshire and I wanted to move further out and experience a new place (been to Lincoln several times )

Fair enough if youve thought about everything. Id probs take the loan to make you more independent.

For the amount of time you're going to be paying the whole debt that uni leaves you, you might as well just take it out and enjoy it! I wouldn't think twice about it if I was staying at home
