This is all in order to help small shops stay alive.
Ch4HD News said 19 local authorities are in favour of the tax. [Local councils have asked the government to give them new powers to tax large supermarkets under a system similar to that already in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland. A group of 20 local councils have backed what has been dubbed a "Tesco tax" in order to increase revenues which they say would be invested in the local community. Derby city council has called for the right to impose a levy on large supermarkets, which it says could earn the local authority an estimated £2m a year.] http://www.theguardian.com/society/2...rease-revenues Last edited by arista; 26-07-2014 at 06:07 PM. |

Maybe these councils could stop wasting money on pointless stuff instead. Our council recently built this ugly looking thing in the middle of town, cost over a million. Last month they had to recover it all due to wind/rain damage, which cost close to another million.
I dont see why supermarkets should put their prices up (which is all that will happen) because councils waste vast amounts of cash on crappy things. |
