Default Big Brother: Why bother?

I am concerned by the recent decline in ratings and the way that this series has been received by viewers and the press so far.

Firstly, the ratings have rated from 500,000 to 1 million each night, a decrease on the ones recorded for Big Brother 14 and 15. Secondly, viewers have hardly warmed to the housemates as their details had already been released. It could be questioned whether this was a good idea or not as some had already featured in the public eye so neutral viewers, those who seem to watch launch night may have turned off.

Another talking point is how forum members have noted that the series seems scripted and dominated by one particular housemate or housemates. Jade was heavily focused upon on last nights highlights show as she complained of despising housemates other than Nick and Kieran.

The tasks only seem to be the series redeeming qualities. The 2050 task and the one featuring housemates in the hospital environment where they had to endure and suffer the horror of Big Brother as they were scared and had unwanted items deposited above them seemed to indicate a positive change.

However, Aaron's injection and the removal of 4 housemates seems that producers are unhappy with their selection and want to start again. Are us, the fans of the show just not bothering as there has been a twist too many?

It is rumoured that Simon is reentering the house tomorrow in a twist to shock the house. Wouldn't it be better though if former housemates from the 4 and 5 area acted as voices of Big Brother, made visits to the house and see the house in different series settings.

Timebomb indicates that there should be a time shift, we have had the future so far, so surely the past should be the next area they revisit.

They can salvage the theme for this if they the producers just think about how they can use the ex-housemates, the themes and tasks to reignite fans and neutrals interest in the house.

Therefore:
Why do you feel people are switching off?
Is it that the format itself (the civilian one) needs a rest?

couple of things puzzling me............all make up is removed........then production

appear to have professionally applied HMs make up for the task

from time to time i get the impression that HM's seem scripted........jack particularly

seems poor at his lines.............cursing randomly after he has made his point

Funny you should say that, i thought Jacks reaction in the diary room to the twist was completely over acted. It looked scripted for sure

I think this season is the culmination of the producers totally ignoring the fans for the past few years now. They have continued to increase producer manipulation, throw silly twists at us every week, and just generally haven't treated us very well, and so people are turning off. They only really have themselves to blame for the desperate mess they've found themselves in now. Regular BB was never going to be getting 2m+ a night these days anyway, especially since moving channels, but I don't believe they would have fell as low as they are now as quickly as they have done if they didn't seem hell bent on driving away all the core fans and appealing purely to the casuals.

Some good ideas.
The voice thing could work.

I always worry about these "visits to the house" though.
It's either watching HM as statues standing still.
Or relatives entering, only to leave 10 mins later leaving the HM in tears.

I gave up on the series and decided to watch BB1. It's really calming.

Lol not exactly the same.

I was watching his eyes and they seemed to light up a bit.

The only dodgy bit I thought was "Who does ?"
http://bigbrother.channel5.com/watch...inations-twist

I guess it's real though.
Why would they need to script it anyway ?

Good post!

BB could only redeem itself if the 4 new housemates going in were 4 chickens in the garden to remind us all of how great BB was once upon a time.

I miss the Channel 4 days. Davina, the chickens, Big Brother's Little Brother and Big Mouth. Big Brother really was buried in 2010. This is a poor imitation.

I don't think it's scripted, I think they've just casted people similar to the ones we know from TOWIE/MIC and it gives off the wrong impression. These twits couldn't hold a conversation unless it was about their twitter followers or their instagram account.
