Who it is, etc...

But most of all, who you know...

Are you insinuating that the mods are biased?

Hi Dan_

Right, let me explain properly with three hyperthetical situations as example.

1) Imagine if a new member arrives on the forum and starts off advertising and spamming these boards immediately, then I would imagine that the new member will get an immediate permanent ban, as their dishonest intentions are obvious, they are a "spammer"

2) Imagine if a new member arrives on the forum and personally attacks existing members and causes a nuisence and gets a 24 hr ban, then 48 hr ban, then 7 day ban within no time at all, and then continues that way, but during all the time of that members time spent on here, as hardly contributed anything or made virtually no friends, then past that, the Admins & mods would consider the permanent ban.

3) (Just using yourself as an example) Imagine if yourself (Dan_) after much time of being on this forum, you suddenly found yourself getting upset by a member or members and after feeling provoked, you personally attacked a member or members or broke the forum rules in some way, then you would get a 24hr ban. If the problems you had with the member or members continued and you had no choice but to persist, then you would get a 48hr ban. Then beyond that, a 7day ban. After having all those bans, everything seemed to improve and there was no rule breaking and life was great here. But, suddenly another problem arrived and overlapped to something much bigger until there was a reaction from yourself and that reaction then makes the Admins & Mods look at yourself and have to make a judgement call. Naturally, they will look at the past positives as well as the negatives. Plus your friends on the forum and MSN too. Word gets around , so, in the end, that will make the Admin's & mods decide on your future.

The same thing will apply with a member or members who haven't had any warnings/bans of any kind.

I would imagine that would be the same situation.

Naturally, every moderator will have their own opinion and one may dislike a particular member, while three like that particular member. That means that it get's complicated.

I can't imagine it is easy and the new idea of having the (7 day ban), being used more than once, is a compromise for the members who fit into the 3rd example I gave above.

But this is only my observation, of course

I get you now.I think there has been a case in the past for very new members that caused trouble continually in a short period and were totally banned once they reached a 4th warning but more longer term members are given a further 7 days instead of a permanent ban.I'd say it more to do with your overall contribution/longevity on the forum rather than who you know.

It's a bit of everything I would say. But naturally as forum members only, it is in the hands of those who are the decision-makers.

But like you say & I say, some join and go bezerk and in two weeks it's bye bye

I can assure you bans are not giving on any bias terms.

It does not matter who you are or how friendly (or unfriendly) you are with the Admin Team. We try to give people who receive bans a chance to prove themselves.

It's when members start to abuse the forum constantly that they're permanently banned - it's all to ensure the forum is the best it can be.

We issue warnings based on people breaking the forum rules. This applies to all members - not just a chosen few.

Also, the reason the warning system changes is to keep up witht he forum changing. It has changed a lot over the years and we have to keep on top of things. If the forum was exactly the same as it was three years ago with this many members, it probably wouldn't survive! That's why TiBB has changed in general over the years. Always trying to improve.

I would like to echo what Lance has just said ALSO I take exception to the implication that it is a case of who you know! All the Mods and Admin on this forum do things with the best interest of the forum in mind.

If a MOD happens to be friends with a member who is causing problems, then they generally ask others to take over so they can not be accused of bias or favouritism. I would like to think that the members on this site know us well enough by now to know that we all make fair decisions.

We all do things differently, no two people are the same, but we all do them following the same set of rules.

As for MSN that just doesnt come into the decision making process on this site. What happens on MSN is exactly that and, nothing to do with us. If people choose to carry arguments over onto the site THEN we will act, again with the best interest of the forum and its members in mind.

As for final bans, well they would come after discussions in towers which would include the members general behaviour on the forum and towards other members.

I would appreciate it if anyone has a problem with the way things appear to be handled on this forum, if they would just spit it out in a private way with either a Mod or Admin, instead of all the innuendo that appears to be going on, espcially when we do all we can to protect people in troubled times.
