Whilst this is true, and I've read interviews with them in the past discussing comedy that make a lot of sense (the intent being to mock neo-nazis and take away the power in it, not to mock Jewish people)... I do then have to wonder, why is it also OK for these shows to do the same with every race? They also make light of black people (and things like slavery, which saw horrors on par with the Holocaust), Chinese people, starving kids in Africa... Etc... And they are none of those things?

Is it simply OK for any minority to mock any other minority? Or is it that Jews / the Holocaust are specifically off limits to anyone but Jews?

Regardless; my point was never that it isn't offensive to some people and people have every right to be offended by it. My point is only that some people finding a thing offensive, does not mean it should be banned / illegal etc.

It isn't legitimately inciting violence, it's borne of ignorance at worst, not hatred. If it was a video of a guy seriously suggesting that everyone should go out and attack Jewish people then by all means arrest him. But it's not. I agree with this. For me (and this is probably going to sound really facetious and I don't mean it to) but I try and sort of equate things like this with gay things because that's the only experience I have of being in a minority or being part of a group that sometimes faces attack. So with this video, if say a gay person had taught their dog to mince around every time the owner yelled 'fagot' or something, I'd probably think it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen BUT if it was a straight person who did it, I'd probably feel much more uncomfortable about it, and maybe feel like they were being derogatory, or think there might be undertones of homophobia, or just generally that they don't have the right to do that. The difference is that they're using a word, or a group's experiences without being able to fully appreciate the feelings of the people who will be affected the most by it. So something about it just kind of stings a bit. When you know that the person doing it does understand, then it takes all that away and you can appreciate the humour in what they're doing. That being said though, I still don't think that what he's done should be considered a criminal offense.

It always boils down to intent. Anyone that believes the guy posted that video on youtube for a prank at his girlfriend is kidding themselves. He was trying to say something controversial repeatedly thinking he could get away with it by featuring the dog.

If you want to play a prank, does it really need to incorporate hate for a group? If the objective is humour, does the audience (youtube not his girlfriend) not need to see it as funny?

The likes of Southpark have always tackled issues leaving the audience in no doubt what its position is on the subject, thats the big difference.

I'd consider it a terrible joke done in awful taste. I believe people should be allowed to be as awful as they want in terms of opinions. If someone wants to be racist or homophobic or whatever, let them. Let them bare the consequences when it costs them their careers and ruins their live. It's a civil and societal issue, not a police one.

I just don't think it's a police matter unless it actually incites violence and puts someone at risk.

There have been many racist comedians/comedies though and nobody was arrested for that.I've heard black comedians call white people 'crackers' many many times and generalise them as a group,That is racism too.It was comedy,Tasteless comedy yes but i think banning speech veers dangerously into Saudi Arabian-esque dictatorship territory.Should John Cleese be arrested?Or Prince Harry?

The girlfriend thing was obvious BS but I still very much doubt he is an actual racist or Nazi, or that he has any ill will towards Jewish people.
