Default why dont we celebrate people before they die?

so many legends have passed this last few months ......rickman , prince, ronnie corbett, bowie, wogan, victoria wood, cruyff, david gest, harper lee, paul daniels, merle haggard, garry shandling, nancy reagan, george martin, etc the list goes on.....and its a list of incredible geniuses and wonderful people who entertained and delighted millions for decades

why wait for their deaths to talk about and celebrate our heros ?

Lets start a thread by nominating our heroes in the showbiz world

For me its bob deniro, imo the greatest actor of all time

who do you nominate?

I live in dread of waking up one day to find Joni Mitchell has passed... Her and Paul Simon. The only two musical artists who come close to singing and articulating my musical soul.

If you don't know their music... then I feel sorry for you.

Paul McCartney, Jeff Lynne would be bad for me personally

Also Tony Blackburn after the disgraceful way the BBC shafted him

I would celebrate unsurprisingly 'Petula Clark'.
A child star who sang for the troops during the war, made films as a child and into adulthood, became a radio star and then a recording star with hits in the 50s through to the 80s.
Still going now, performing and recording new albums, the last one, 'Lost in You' released in 2013 making the UK album charts.
A huge star internationally across the World and particularly in France where she scored hit after hit with her recordings.

The first British female singer to reach the top of the USA charts in the 60s with 'Downtown', and the first British female singer to win a grammy and then another grammy for 'Downtown' and 'I know a Place' the same year.

A successful West end and Broadway star too with the 80s revival of the Sound of Music, then Blood Brothers in the 90s in the USA with David and Sean Cassidy, followed by success in Sunset Boulevard in the late 90s both in the UK and then touring the States again with it in the early 2000s.
A TV star of the 60s and 70s with her own shows and endless specials here in the UK and in the USA too.

Still performing to the present day, still recording, still touring, making in my view one of the best songs of the 2010s in 'CUT COPY ME' which made a chart in Europe.
With another brand new album to be released in September,'From Now On' and a small UK tour too.

Someone, not in your face, who is down to earth, now in her 80s,showing no signs of stopping and someone who in my view is a real credit to show business and how celebrities should be and act.
As well as in my view being the greatest stylist of songs and for me any songwriter,(and she is one herself too),who has had their songs recorded by 'Petula' should count themselves really lucky as songwriters indeed.
Amazing and a really true star.

Obviously I am a fan, it has been a privilege for me since being in my teens to now at 24,to have researched and gathered all the recordings of this truly special star from the UK.

ohhh let me think

I'm going to say for actors Tom Hanks, I just think he's absolutely fantastic and effortless in everything he does and I love the majority of his films, also it's refreshing that such a big star also seems so grounded and has managed to say with the same woman and family for so long. That's no mean feat in the celeb world

Music wise I'm going to say Eddie Vedder, I've been a fan of Pearl Jam since the 90's and they're still going strong, love the soulfullness of his voice and the lyrics he writes

..there are so, so many I could nominate...music artists, I'll say Joni Mitchell first because of personal reasons and the lyrics of one of her songs in particular so much reflected one of the darkest times in my life and helped me feel not quite so alone..it's that person 'reaching out to you and understanding', is what meaningful music does, I think...also Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)..., Barbra Streisand, Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross...ughh, just loads...

..some non music artists would be Tom Hanks, Angela Lansbury, Sir Ian McKellen, Eddie Izzard, Helen Mirren, Dame Judy Dench, Maggie Smith..and on and on it goes....
