awww what a great kid
![]() "YOU need to get started and then you’re halfway there,” — the words of 13-year-old Milo McCarthy after he received a Person of the Year award last month. ![]() The teenager got the award because he raised €18,000 for Syrian refugees by busking on the streets of Cork city and his hometown of Midleton. “My dad and I watched the TV and we saw all the pictures of the refugees and Alan Kurdi on the beach and I wasn’t going to let it pass by and think ‘poor them’ and let them get on with their lives. I wanted to make things a little better.” Milo, who plays a wide mix but loves the songs of David Bowie, Chuck Berry, and U2, used to be too shy to busk in cities like Cork. http://www.irishexaminer.com/lifesty...nt-438770.html

What a lovely heart warming story.
Sadly I'm one of those people who'd get paid to stop singing. ![]()

"we saw all the pictures of the refugees and Alan Kurdi on the beach "
I read that the wee boys family were actually safely residing in Turkey (so no0t refugees) and that the father had a sister in Canada and they were trying to get their to get free dental work for the dad. Sometimes things are not as they seem. |

He's a Chuck Berry fan, so he gets a thumbs up from me.
Nice to see youngsters paying their respects to real legends of music. |

yes, they had tried before too, they tried the official way to get to Canada but had been refused so decided to pay traffickers and go illegally, well in fact the father's cousin revealed that he was steering the boat and in fact was a people smuggler himself!
"One Australian politician blamed the father for the death of the boy when the Australian Parliament debated the refugee issue. Senator Cory Bernardi told Australia’s Parliament he was not swayed by “these emotive arguments, and in particular to characterise this as some sort of humanitarian mission”. While acknowledging that the boy’s death was a tragedy, he said: “That boy and his family had lived in Turkey for three years. The money for that boy’s father to pay the people smugglers was sent from Canada.” He added, “The father sent them on that boat so the father could get dental treatment. They were in no fear, they were in no persecution and they were in no danger in Turkey.” http://dailycaller.com/2015/09/07/st...ed-syrian-boy/ http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-0...eople-smuggler http://www.express.co.uk/comment/exp...ch-Aylan-Kurdi |

Yes he claimed that to justify the ridiculous trip. He was far from desperate and put his wife and child in terrible danger despite his other family pleading with him not to go.

You do always like to believe the worst you possibly can from these people. There's not one of us that wouldn't try to get a better life if we happened to be born on the "wrong side" of the world
