Interesting little article on how it seems that time catches up with men too, in more ways than one.

I find the ending a little depressing!

"Do you carry on chasing women 20 years younger and assume they will be thrilled? Or do you look in a mirror and think: you know what, I’m past my peak. I think I’ll start looking at women my own age."

What is she saying here? She sort of is confirming that she also believes that women past a certain age are some sort of "second prize" that a "second prize" male should be willing to settle for. What a miserable and shallow thought .

I mean, I'm hardly "old" - I'm only 32 - and also happily married and my wife is 30. But if the worst did happen and I was ever single again, I can say quite confidently that it's VERY unlikely that I would have any interest in women under 30? And I get slightly uncomfortable when other guys my age are perving on girls who are say 18 - 21... all I can see is basically a child .

But yeah to go back to my original point, I'm finding myself feeling really bad for the woman who wrote this article, that she thinks that anyone who is interested in women over (she seems to be saying) about 35 must be "settling" for something less than ideal. That doing so is "living in the real world" and not "the dream". That's really bleak and if she believes it I don't think she can be very happy or have very good self esteem? If she thinks that every man who shows interest is really thinking "Well, I'd rather have a younger girl, but I'll make do with this one because I'm past it too".

The fact is, with very few exceptions, the majority of people are going to have most in common with people who are "around" the same sort of age, or at least of the same generation. If I *was* to find myself on a dating profile right now... I'd be looking at the age range 28 - 40 tbh. And as I'm 32, that range is from 4 years younger than me to 8 years older than me, so actually skewed towards older .

Yeah, I ended up having to take drastic measures too. Why are the pamphlets so FULL OF LIES though. "You should be able to return to light work within 24 hours". **** off I was in bed with a bag of frozen peas duck-taped to my crotch!

But yeah... the little Toy Soldiers were troopers. First daughter my wife was on the pill, second was literally the first squirt after we decided to try for a second. We've also been through two miscarriages since then - one when she had a coil implant, and one when we were using condoms (admittedly... not particularly well ). There was just no stopping the little bastards . Had to cut them off at the source. Every slightly late period was causing me horrendous anxiety

I think it's a fairly common misconception that women have a "biological clock"
but that men are "fine to wait until whenever". Obviously everyone knows that some older gents find it a bit more difficult to get going, but many assume that the sperm itself is just as good at 60 as at 20.

Wtf I didn't say anything about the men... I didn't say anything about women in general even... I was talking SPECIFICALLY about the woman who wrote the article because she seems to believe some things that just are not true. The only part of what she wrote that I suppose you could say is unfair on men in the same way, is when she says that older men are stupid to think that a younger woman "will be thrilled" if he shows her attention.

From the flipside, her actual ideas about men and women, she's prety sad and cynical about both in equal measure to be fair. She paints men as being only truly interested in younger women, but she also seems to be suggesting that women are only interested in men who are either "hot and young" or "rich and old". She's quite equal opportunities in making people out to be horrible and shallow.

But anyway... my sympathy was only for her and her depressing view of life and relationships, I have no idea where you got the idea that I was expressing "empathy for women", I was actually pointing out that she is wrong in her ideas about what men want and being unfair... and I'm TOTALLY baffled as to where men having a lower average lifespan comes into it? Neither the thread nor the link has anything to do with health (beyond reproductive health) or mortality??

Actually burst out laughing at that. Great post TS. The age of death of men is kind of noway relevant to this thread tbh, unless the men dying 5 years before women are drowning themselves in their own sperm or something :S

I did think men could do it whenever. I know a lot of older men need viagra but I did assume that sperm was pretty much the same. obviously quality would decline a bit with age, but you see so many older guys fathering children that I never really thought deeply into it.

every relevance seriously. men age quicker and die far younger this is wholly relevant to what time men have for relationships and sperm and having kids...men should be able to retire earlier than women and get an earlier pension, not the other way around as men have 5 years less time on earth than women on average across the entire western world and the gap is increasing as women are looked after infinitely better

everything...the quality weakens, men age worse and worse, they get nearly 50 times less funding spent on their health overall when you combine all charities, tax payers money, nhs spending, refuges, homelessness and mental health per head...so their health deteriorates far quicker than women and the sperm suffers as does the time frame men have to have kids ...kids are made with sperm sorry if that offends feminists

It depends on perspective I suppose. Does it have to be seen as fading? I suppose maybe a lot of people fear their own mortality and that's why the cling to the idea that young=attractive, like anchoring to a younger person might perhaps keep someone a little further from death themselves?

typical liberal playing dumb....try joining the dots, mens sperm worsens quicker as they do not get enough spent on their health per head which is why they age much quicker than women and die younger...it also reduces the time they have with their kids when their sperm impregnates a woman
