Default Black Mirror Season 7 (Out now - Netflix)

Quote:
We’re still not done untangling our thoughts and feelings about the sixth season of Black Mirror, yet Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series is deep in production on six new episodes for Season 7, which will stream on Netflix in 2025. As part of Geeked Week, Netflix’s epic annual festival celebrating all things fandom, the lead cast of the upcoming season has been revealed, along with clues from Brooker himself as he took the stage at the live event in Atlanta on Sept. 19.

“You can expect a mix of genres and styles,” Brooker told the amped-up audiences of Geeked Week. “We've got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”

Later, backstage at the event, Brooker told Tudum that the new season was “a little bit OG Black Mirror.” He added, “It’s back to basics in many ways. They’re all sci-fi stories, but there’s definitely some horrifying things that occur, but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There’s definitely some disturbing content in it.”

Brooker and the Black Mirror creative team aren’t giving away any specific spoilers, but they are teasing one major nugget of information: One of the episodes will be a sequel to the now-classic Season 4 opener, “USS Callister.”

“Fans of the show will recognize the cast of a certain spaceship from one of our episodes reappearing,” Brooker said on stage. “We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history. Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, and I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human.”

The high-profile Season 4 episode centered on Robert Daly, a brilliant but troubled programmer who co-created a popular online video game. Unhappy with a perceived lack of recognition at his gaming company, Robert then creates a simulated reality within the game, giving himself the role of a Captain Kirk–like figure aboard a starship and leading an adoring crew — based on his real-life co-workers — on zany sci-fi adventures. Of course, because this is Black Mirror, things take an unexpected and sinister turn.

Aside from the tease about the sequel to the USS Callister episode, Netflix has announced the lead cast members –– listed below alphabetically –– of Black Mirror Season 7 via a cryptic “data drop” asset.

“We’ve got an embarrassingly stacked cast,” said Brooker.

Patsy Ferran (Firebrand)
