Arrow Domestic violence storyline for Corrie

Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs will become a victim of domestic violence in a forthcoming storyline, a report has revealed.

The Weatherfield mechanic, played by Alan Halsall, will be attacked by his controlling fiancée Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) later this year, according to The Sun.

It is thought that Kirsty will step up her manipulation of Tyrone in the coming weeks, continuing her attempts to isolate him from his friends.

However, the situation then escalates as Kirsty turns violent with a shocking attack.

Coronation Street bosses are understood to have consulted domestic violence charities while planning the story to ensure an accurate and sensitive portrayal.

A source at the show commented: "Kirsty will be seen attacking Tyrone and the fallout will be how she feels terrible about it and attempts to show some remorse."

ManKind, the UK's leading charity for supporting male victims of abuse, has praised Coronation Street for tackling the issue.

The organisation's chairman Mark Brooks said that the upcoming scenes "will make a real difference to the thousands of men suffering in silence behind their front doors".

BBC One's daytime soap Doctors has also recently explored the issue of domestic violence against men. Show regular Heston Carter (Owen Brenman) and his girlfriend Marina Bonnaire (Marian McLoughlin) were at the centre of the story.
