What we are seeing i think is a form of copy catting. Those not particularly stable see events on the news and think ... hey, i could do that. All it takes is someone a bit mentally vulnerable. I too don't take what I hear as fact, its not like the police are proven to be 100% accurate in their summation of situations in the past.
