But Viggo Mortensen, 59, rocked a low-key look for a day out with his Spanish actress parner Ariadna Gil, 49, in downtown Manhattan, New York, on Wednesday.

The Madrid-based couple, who have been together since 2009, appeared to be enjoying a spot of shopping as they strolled along the streets of SoHo side by side, with bags in hand.

Viggo was dressed in a black T-shirt, emblazoned with the message: 'I stand with standing rock' in white writing, which he teamed with casual black jeans and black Asics trainers.

The Danish-American actor looked every inch a silver fox as he protected his eyes with a pair of shades.

Ariadna was dressed in a grey and black vest with a jacket draped over her shoulder, which she paired with denim shorts and blue trainers.

Best known for her role in Pan's Labyrinth in 2006, the actress covered her brunette tresses with a black Nike cap and slung a brown leather bag across her body.

While the actress popped inside a shop to have a browse, Viggo waited outside, puffing away on a cigarette.

Ariadna shares Leo with ex-husband, the director David Trueba, with whom she also shares daughter Violeta, 20.

Viggo also raises a son, Henry, 29, with ex-wife, former punk rocker Exene Cervenka, 61.

The couple tied the knot in 1987 after meeting on the set of Salvation! the previous year.
