Katie Taylor held on to her titles on Saturday night when she won her second clash with Belgian Delfine Persoon. However, the joy was overshadowed by Sky Sports’ gaffe about Katie’s nationality. Speaking ahead of the fight, presenter Anna Woolhouse and Anthony Joshua chatted about the Bray native. Anna asked: ‘What do you reckon then Anthony, your fellow 2012 Team GB Olympian Katie Taylor, will it be repeat or revenge?’ Of course, Katie walked away with gold for her country at the 2012 London Olympics but that doesn’t mean she was part of Team GB. Anna later apologised for the comment when she realised her big mistake. However, Irish people were left sighing as the UK once again tried to claim an Irish star as their own. Boxer Tyrone McKenna tweeted: ‘Katie Taylor was never team GB Anna woodhouse…Britain would claim anything yous have your own queen don’t try and steal ours’. While Dr Jennifer Cassidy shared a picture of Katie with an Irish flag said: ‘Sky Sports just introduced Katie Taylor as a Team GB Olympic athlete. No. Just No. An Irish, Gold Olympic Medalist Athlete. End of.’ It was an incredible 10 rounds of fighting between the two women for their rematch on Saturday night. But Katie Taylor won via unanimous decision, as the judges scored it: 98-93, 96-94, 96-94 all in her favour. https://evoke.ie/2020/08/23/extra/vi...lor-sky-sports
