Default BBC apologizes after reporter accidentally said Bill Clinton was released from prison

BBC apologizes after reporter accidentally said Bill Clinton was released from prison instead of Bill Cosby

The BBC apologized after a reporter named former President Bill Clinton instead of Bill Cosby when reporting on Cosby's release from prison.

Cosby was released from a Pennsylvania prison on Wednesday after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court threw out his conviction for aggravated indecent assault.

The court ruled that Cosby should never have been charged, citing the terms of a previous deal with prosecutors. That made his conviction invalid and brought about his release.

The BBC journalist Michelle Fleury accidentally named Clinton when reporting on that news. Standing outside the prison, she said: "For the last two years, this is where Bill Clinton has called home."

The BBC News anchor Huw Edwards later gave a clarification.

"Just to clarify, what was said there in Michelle's introduction to the story, when she mistakenly said Bill Clinton instead of Bill Cosby, we apologize for the mistake," the Mail Online reported.

"The story is of course is about Bill Cosby the entertainer."

As Insider previously reported, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said in a statement that Cosby "now goes free on a procedural issue that is irrelevant to the facts of the crime."
