Shame, an absolute legend and my favourite current MMA Fighter :'(
UFC legend Amanda Nunes has announced her MMA retirement. 'The Lionness' put on a flawless performance to beat Irene Alanda at UFC 289 before cutting off her gloves and confirming she is done with fighting. ![]() Nunes appeared to be the better fighter from the first round but did eat a big punch from her Mexican opponent who is known for knocking people out. However, Aldana didn't offer much else over the course of 25 minutes. The Brazilian battered her on the feet and mixed in wrestling attacks which resulted in her ending the fight in mount - the most dominant MMA position - looking for a finish. Aldana survived but the judges scored the fight 50-44, 50-43 and 50-43 in favour of the greatest female fighter of all time who retained her title. Before the result was announced, Nunes jumped out of the Octagon for a brief conversation with UFC president Dana White. During her post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, the 35-year-old revealed she told the UFC boss about her retirement and explained her reasons for walking away. Nunes shouted 'Double champion forever' while getting her gloves cut off and laying them in the centre of the Octagon alongside her two UFC belts. "Today, if you guys look around, I just tied Anderson Silva for most defences of the belt, so tonight is a perfect night to retire," she said. https://talksport.com/sport/mma/1455...fc-289-result/
