In talking to him online, knowing some from his group and being in their circles and just by watching them online you can see, unfortunately, David really does believe this nonsense.

I don't think you or anyone else can say what Dave does or doesn't believe in his heart. Everyone who is religious has faith that is not open for negotiation and, like you say, nothing can convince them otherwise. That's their choice.
