My young brother sucked his thumb til he was 9 years old and only stopped when he got his tonsils out and couldn't swallow after the op.

Maybe there is a good reason for that - maybe she used to suck her thumb - doesn't now - but pretends she does for effect and sympathy from the bleeding hearts!
