Of course, we've deviated from that to some extent but the generalisation is still very much there. You don't see many women in physical labour jobs like construction for example.

And in terms of abuse the legal system will certainly take a man hitting a woman far more seriously than vice versa. Purely because men are deemed physically stronger and capable of more damage.

So the physical difference does come into play in all aspects of life. And you certainly still hear many women talking about wanting a big guy who can protect them!
Of course I realise why men were created physically stronger - but the reasons for that no longer apply in modern times! We have the intelligence to build machines to do the heavy lifting, for example!

I think it is just common sense that the law takes men hitting women more seriously - given the difference in physical strenth - just as a grown adult, man or woman - shoudn't hit a smaller, physically weaker child! It is far more likely to result in serious physical injury - and cannot be condoned in any way, shape or form - although this doesn't give women license to hit men - assault is assualt - and should be treated accordingly!

And women may feel safer in given situations when with a physically strong man - but that doesn't mean they want or need to be protected per se! But there are always certain types of soppy women - that can't cope without a man - but we certainly shouldn't all be tarred with the same brush!
