Why not?! American artists sing in their own accents so why don't the British? She speaks in it all day everyday so surely singing in it can't be too hard.

It will only sound strange because people are so used to hearing the American accent that has become so standard in the music industry today. So normal that I don't even notice it most of the time either. The thing with Rebecca is that she takes the standard American singing accent even further and actually tries to impersonate a minority accent in order to sound more soulful. Her singing voice sounds more like she's from Chicago or New York, where soul music is said to originate from.

A little bit of trivia for you - in her first audition Rebecca sang "Change Will Come" by Sam Cooke, from Chicago, Illinois.

THIS is my problem with Rebecca and her voice, and the reason why I hate artists like Joss Stone and Taio Cruz (even if they do have some very catchy songs!)
