worry with this though is that the C4 characters will dominate the show and either be the first lot to leave or the C5 bunch will be seen as too boring and leave before they get a chance to open up

The impression I got was a handful of the 'C4' types who would be well out-numbered and may be seen as 'baddies' so-to-speak.
But I did think the very same thing you did - IF they are not nominated BB could easily see this 'backfire' since... well... I mean Shabby didn't even get evicted!
The audience has this thing to do the opposite of what they think BB is trying to manipulate hehe
