He wasn't going to be poor wherever he went, and although he publicly used all clubs to bump his eventual salary up, I doubt money was his sole motivation.

However, I could well be wrong on that score, and none of us really know. He seemed to be hinting at going to City for a long time from what I remember.

He wanted to come to England so PSG were off the cards. He said he'd be moving to one of the Manchester clubs. Never happened. Why? Well, City dropped out of the running due to his wage demands (yes, even City) and before this we were favourites to sign him.

He then said he was going to announce his future, then made another announcement to say he has to think about it with Chelsea having conquered Europe. A Chelsea team that, let's be fair, were far from the best team in Europe.
Chelsea offered more cash, and it seems a bit suspicious that they signed his brother shortly after. Wouldn't be surprised if this was one of his demands.
