Default 'Toy Story' special movie to air on ABC in October...

Toy Story will return for a special TV movie later this year, it has been announced.

ABC will air the 30-minute film Toy Story of Terror in October, TV Guide reveals.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their voice roles as Woody and Buzz, while Don Rickles (Mr Potato Head), Wallace Shawn (Rex) and Joan Cusack (Jessie) will also have more prominent roles.

The Pixar production follows the group of toys post-Toy Story 3, on a road trip adventure that goes wrong.

"Bonnie is on a road trip to go see grandma with her mum and the toys are in the trunk," executive producer Galyn Susman said.

"Mum gets a flat tyre and they have to spend the night at a motel and all kinds of chaos ensues."

Susman added: "We've gotten to see a lot of development in Woody and in Buzz and we felt it was Jesse's turn to really show some growth."

Mr Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) and Trixie (Kristen Schaal) will return from the third instalment, while Carl Weathers will voice Combat Carl, the toy who was blown up by neighbour Sid in the first film.

Toy Story of Terror will air sometime around Halloween, and will reportedly contain a "horror feel", with films such as Psycho, Aliens and Predator serving as influences.

"There was some support to make a scary, but not necessarily Halloween-themed half-hour Toy Story special for television," director Angus MacLane said.

"There was some concern early on about not making it too scary for kids. I think we've done a good job of balancing staying true to Toy Story and staying true to the genre.

"As far as adults are concerned, I've always thought that we make these movies for ourselves. I think it's funny and like the other Toy Story films, I think there is plenty of stuff in there that only adults will get."

Disney denied speculation earlier this year that Toy Story 4 was in development.

A Finding Nemo sequel has been confirmed for release in 2016, titled Finding Dory.
