  Mainly because all three manage to strike an emotional chord and have in depth and well written characters.  Metal Gear Solid in general has excellent storylines, MGS in 1998 really changed the landscape in how a game can present it's story. The dialogue may suffer from EarlyResidentEvilitis and the voice acting is trash but the core storyline of SH2 is sensational and it really pushed the boundaries back when it was released.
