If simply popping out a child made you a better, more rounded person, the care system would be defunct. If a child is going to be neglected or abused it's a good chance that the abuser will be one or both of its parents. Children who are murdered are more likely to be murdered by a parent. I know plenty of parents who are not what I would describe as "rounded" and plenty who are. Same with people who don't have kids. How about people who desperately want a child and are not able? Are they doomed to be considered slightly less than someone who's had a late-night knee trembler up against the bins which produced a child? How about women who adopt? Are they never going to be good mothers because they didn't carry them for nine months?
Like I've said before... I don't have kids, but I have three nieces, and if you want to see real maternal instincts, lay a hand on one of them and see what happens.
