Default CH4 to make a British version of 60 Days in Jail

Quote:
When you think of reality shows it normally brings to mind Tango-tanned and heavily accented model-wannabes, hopeful singers and Rebecca Loos tossing off that pig.

But Channel 4 might be bringing something new to the genre, as it's planning a UK version of 60 Days In.

The show already airs in the US as The Jail: 60 Days In, and sees civilians planted in prison with real-life criminals in order to expose questionable or illegal behaviour including drug deals, gang activity and violence.

The Jail: 60 Days In is comprised of footage captured on hidden cameras, CCTV videos and interviews with the fake prisoners.

According to Broadcast Now, there seems to have been some barriers to gaining access to UK prisons, as they're run by the Home Office. However the show, has already aired 12 episodes across two seasons in America, with a third season airing now and a fourth on the way.

People taking part in the US version of 60 Days In included a former marine, a substitute teacher and a stay-at-home mother.

They were also joined by a second round of inmates who included an aspiring correctional officer, a man whose own brother was in jail and Muhammed Ali's daughter, Maryum Ali.

The first two seasons of the US show were based in Jeffersonville's Clark County Jail and screened on A+E Networks, with season three set in Atlanta's Fulton County Jail.

Channel 4 screened the US version of the show late last year, and received an average audience of around 875,000.

While we've got you here, you may be interested in seeing all the times reality TV shows went dark, including physical abuse and actual murder. Oh and there's the most disgusting moments we've ever seen on telly, which you might also, erm, 'enjoy'.
