Social media is divided over the alleged sacking of Katie Hopkins from LBC.

But, according to one BBC journalist, her former colleagues at the radio station erupted into "massive cheers" after receiving an email confirming the news.

Gloating via Twitter, the corporation's media editor, Amol Rajan, wrote: "Am very reliably told there were massive cheers + applause in LBC newsroom when staff received email about Hopkins".

His message was liked and re-tweeted by hundreds of people, who delighted in his apparent joy at the 42 year-old's departure.



Several hours earlier Rajan also claimed he had the "scoop", but was able to substantiate it to his editor's standards.

"I had Katie Hopkins scoop yesterday. Phoned LBC. Useless response. Needed 2nd source. BBC rules mean I couldn't do it. One of those things."

However, while many followers shared his delight, others were more critical. One wrote: "Because they [LBC], like the BBC are appeasing cowards who are afraid of the truth and can't handle someone telling the truth."

Another said: "Well they won't have an audience soon," while a third chimed in: "Striking her down just makes her stronger."

A fourth waded into the fray, saying: "The religious ideology that killed these people with bombs and nails is "hate" [not Hopkins]. It's sad you are oblivious to the difference."

The decision to discontinue Hopkins' affiliation comes in the same week that she called for a "final solution" to Islamic extremism, following the Manchester attack on Monday evening.

The sickening attack saw 22 people killed and dozens injured after a suicide bomber detonated a device as concert-goers left the Manchester Arena.

Some social media users are already suggesting Hopkins will next score a lucrative contract from Fox News.
