Too glam to give a damn

I somewhat agree with what they're saying, but it's important to note that not all drag queens make a career performing at nightclubs (although most of them do).

As if kids would be going to nightclubs where that behaviour happens :/
I'm sure many drag Queens are more than happy to do kid friendly shows, who remember what it was like for them and for whom drag isn't as sordid or deviant as is being made out.

It is a bit creepy how opportunistic parents in the USA full introduce their kids to the "world" of drag. Like that Desmond kid, apparently he got started by watching Drag Race (!!) and went on to perform at late night shows and meet with all sorts of unsavoury people. If he likes playing dressup, then fine whatever, but no need to involve him in anything beyond that.

I enjoy drag but I have to agree that from what I've seen, it's definitely a form of adult entertainment. I wouldn't compare it to "porn and strippers" though, if I was putting an "age rating" it would probably be 15 not 18, but it's definitely not for kids OR intended for kids.

Nightclubs are no place for kids, nor are things like Dragcon really but I disagree that all aspects of drag are unsuitable for children, as drag becomes more mainstream, you will see more forms of drag that are suitable for all ages, you already have things like Drag Queen Story Time where Drag Queens read story books to children at libraries and I imagine you'll get more as time goes on.
A lot of Drag is what was described in the video but it can also be an art form that can be enjoyed by all (look up some art queens, they basically turn themselves into works of art with a makeup brush and a decent palette). Like with any form of entertainment, Drag is vast and has facets aimed at all audiences but it all comes down to common sense on the parents' part. Enjoying drag culture is well and good but if you want your kids to enjoy it as well, you need to explore the child friendly avenues. Last edited by Tom4784; 11-02-2020 at 03:23 PM. |

No..the new clowns for kids..2020 style.
They could tour the country performing making the kids laugh at them.. Last edited by Beso; 11-02-2020 at 08:19 PM. |

To suggest that drag Queens can only cater to one audience and limit their appeal seems unfair on the community as a whole to me.

I suppose it does depend on the environment as well, because for example a 13 year old doing a drag act at a Nightclub would be opening up a can of worms.
