Been up all night with continous thunder and lightning. all local schools are shut and half the flippin roads plus train station. The TLs step dad's street flooded at 2 am so we had to go down but the water was a foot up his door so we could not get in so he just used towels, downstairs hall got wet but his neighbour 4 down got flooded out. The dogs were a shivering wreck. We lost sky at 10.30 and its still off now. I have never seen such continous lightning over such a long period. We had quite a few flash then immediate quarry blast bangs (so very close) that set off car alarms. i am exhuasted

a street not far from the TLs dad

We had sheet lighting again last night. Not as much as the previous night but still, never seen lightning like it before! Not in this country anyway.

I am wondering, how do they know the location of lightning strikes?

On a radar they can probably see something sciencey? Like a large exertion of energy or something

Lightning produces sferics (radio waves) like when you had your am/mw radio on in the car back in the day and you could hear a distinct crackle for strikes. THis allows for accurate mapping

one of the best sites that also give accurate waves of thunder is

https://www.lightningmaps.org/

you can customise the map and sounds etc

We had an amazing light show last night...went on for hours. I was outside at 1am just watching the sky...it was still hot, even when the rain came it didn't cool down

I would quite like to get some sleep this side of Christmas so if the sun could jog on, that would be lovely

It's lovely over here right now, between 22-25 degrees the last few days, just perfect

I really hope it's going to rain today.
It's been way too hot. To the point that I can't sleep

Literally just came on to ask you what the **** that was last night LT. I've not seen lightning like that in my life. Every 2 to 5 seconds for 6 hours. Car alarms going constantly. WHAT the actual ****. We watched it until about 1am, then I kept being woken by it right up until 4am. Luckily the kids slept through it mostly - eldest told me she woke up at about 3 and thought something heavy had fallen down the stairs because the rumbling was so loud.

I actually got myself all worried in the middle of the night, half asleep and convinced it was never going to stop. I've never known lightning like that to go on for more than maybe an hour. But actually I don't think I've ever seen flashes that frequent and constant.

Dog wasn't arsed actually - not a huge fan of the thunder but she was larking about the garden in the downpour. Just darting back in for a few seconds with the really loud bangs. She's too dumb to be scared of anything.

I love the warm evenings, it feels tropical sitting out, not found it too bad to get to sleep but we have moved rooms to the back of the house where it doesn't get too much sun

It could have been 8 hours to be fair - we managed to be oblivious to it (watching telleh in the living room) until a neighbour texted my wife the cryptic message of "go to your bedroom window and turn off the lights". She said it had already been going on for a while at that point.

Cant deal with this heat any longer. Its making me so irritable with everyone too! Im not a summer person at all usually anyway!

Didnt get any storms last night but the night before we had it from 10pm to 5am and it kept me up the whole night, at one point it had hit the train barriers across the road from me it was so loud!!
