Maybe he got the figure from today’s Independent .. dated 6 hours ago

Nearly 195,000 people – a near-record – tested positive for coronavirus in the latest 24 hour recording period, continuing the sharp upward trend since the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Isn’t that a huge jump up in hospitalisations - it was about 14,000 on catch-up Tuesday ( after the usual lower figures of Sat / Sun / Mon )

Who says that the new variant is just like a bad cold !!

Fact is the hospitalisations are rising fast and some on here made little of this new , apparently milder strain .

The number on ventilator and the number of deaths are the critical numbers. If they remain flat or decrease then the rest of it will sort itself out in the next couple of weeks

So are you dismissing the 18,000 needing hospital treatment .. I’d imagine that they’re pretty poorly given that you have to be pretty bad for them to let you stay in longer than a few hours

Not dismissing them at all, but as has been pointed out frequently and which you continually ignore 30% of those in those hospital numbers went in with something else and tested positive while there...i.e women having babies

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-say-QUA.html

NHS is urged to STOP counting thousands of Covid 'patients' who are actually being treated for other illnesses: Data shows a QUARTER of infected Brits in hospital were admitted for different conditions such as road accidents
Health service statistics show there were 5,697 beds taken up by people who had tested positive for the virus
But 1,483 of these were being treated for other illnesses or injuries such as a bad fall at home

additionally, if people don't end up in intensive care, its a different level of care that is required. This is not the issue we were dealing with 12 or 18 months ago
