She's not "wrong"; she's lying. She knows that it's far more than 1% and I'm sure deep down understands that there's validity to some of the concern.

The commitment to "deny deny deny" is baked into the prescribed tactics (Stonewall disseminated). Playing devil's advocate - the rhetoric is is serious need of an overhaul/update, it's tired and no longer working, but they seem to be sticking to it.

"That Doesn't Happen" is the mantra but no one is really buying that line in 2024.
