Most of the time, the stuff nominated is stuff virtually no one but the snobbiest of snobs has seen. This year is a rare one where most people will at least have heard of more than half the films nominated for best picture.
Although despite the audience accessibility, I'm not sure the likes of Wicked, Emilia Perez, or even The Substance (which pains me to say, as I'm a big horror fan and I did like it) are particularly deserving of being included in that roster.
Also what the hell is Jimmy Kimmel talking about when he says his four years as host went well. Hasn't the Oscars rather notoriously experienced a diminishing viewership over the last few years? How is it the case that it 'went well' for him?
