This has nowt to do with Hamas or even Israel - a large enclave/colony (essentially) right on the edge of the Mediterranean as a gateway to the Middle East is a dream come true for the US. Just look at it on a map. You couldn't design a more blatant foothold.

I would also caution that Israel should be VERY wary of this -- if the US was to officially take and hold Gaza as territory, it massively impacts/limits what has traditionally been a very significant "strategic usefulness" of Israel itself. They don't need a proxy (ahem, excuse me, "a very close military and strategic partnership") if they can permanently hold a large military presence in Gaza on "their own" land.

Isreal will still be very useful for the US to have as an ally
the US wont want Gaza being all alone and the new Israel
Israel will be a buffer state at very least and recieve certainly more protection than currently given the US will be even more invested in the region.

Trump has shown little inclination to form strong alliances, you might be right but it wouldn't be long before "Hey, how about Israel becomes a state?" starts floating around. They sold a story about MAGA isolationism, but every move they make is expansionist, not isolationist.

regardless of outcome it seems like a clear indication that the whole ordeal has indeed been a planned genocide, and given that it started under Biden and is continuing under Trump, it was one that's been orchestrated at a level that goes beyond either of them.

People often fail to remember that genocide can refer simply to deliberately displacing a population from an area - it doesn't inherently mean wiping them out or killing them. Just removing them by any means necessary. That is what has been done.

It's not even about alarm, just definitions. You can say that it was a necessary genocide - it would be a tough stance to take, but you could argue for it if you believe it - but you can't argue that it wouldn't be a form of genocide. I'm somewhat torn, because on one hand I see massively the strategic potential, because it does keep Hamas out and theoretically that could lead to having a stronger Israel, and a stronger Israel is beneficial to us in the West because it can help keep peace in the Middle East. (Again, theoretically.)

But I don't appreciate that our leaders can just walk into places and play Legos with taxpayer money on a whim. I'd rather we rebuild here and focus on becoming a better example for ourselves. For instance, we need to show each other we can heal our own divisions before preaching to others. That said, I don't feel a need to prove anything, but I do very much want to leave a more peaceful future to our children.
