My main point in this thread was that a large proportion of flags going up aren't for patriotism but for protest, which has yet to be proven wrong and in fact has been confirmed to be true. |

Yes, but not a protest about immigrants in hotels, a protest about free speech, which is what the organisers have confirmed. |

So @BBXX
I'm assuming you know your neighbour? So with that you accept they have a flag in their garden because they are patriotic? Yet all these other people putting up flags that you don't know are doing it to protest against immigrants and in doing so, to further make them feel unwelcome even though those people you don't know are saying it's against the government's attack on free speech? Is that correct? |

That's a completely fair comment, that was rude, but she's essentially lying about what I am saying and the evidence is all in this thread.
I literally gave an example of why flying a Palestinian flag under certain circumstances would be completely inappropriate, I gave examples of where/when I think flying the national flag is completely appropriate. Nowhere did I say the flag was racist. Finally, we didn't even mention pride or trans flags but Livia is obsessed with trans people for some reason so she needed to bring them into the convo, obviously. I'm all for debate but I'm not here for having my views misrepresented when I've been super clear. |

I still believe you are wrong. It also makes no sense why a flag flying atop a lamppost would make anyone feel unwelcome...it would be more likely that they would feel welcome, in a putting the bunting up for us kind of way.. We will have to disagree cause the free speech angle seems a much more plausible to me. The people taking them down! What has that coincided with, who's allegiances would they share? |

The free speech thing is why they are going up.
And the video in the op shows why. You simply don't get the leeway the left get from the police if you are draped in an English or British flag. The flags started going up when the left counter protesters at the hotels were being bussed in and out to confront the concerned locals by the police themselves. The other video posted yesterday further proves the 2 tier policing when the police arrested the one man being surrounded kicked and punched by a terrorist organisations supporters, rather than arresting them. Do you see a flag in this dated video from basildin...or just 2 young arseholes painting a flag? Have you seen the clip of the fella jumping out his van to kick away the ladder of someone putting a flag up sending him crashing to the ground. So tell me, in this particular gameof na na., got ya...which is worse the physical or verbal assault. Using 2 young lads in basildon as proof of being correct in an assumption is a bit pathetic, even from you. Last edited by Beso; 09-09-2025 at 02:22 PM. |

Once not wanting immigrants to come to the UK is actually racist, then I will answer your question.. As of now, you dont need to be racist to not want them here. |

Anyone claiming the sudden surge in flags across the country isn’t tied to racism is trolling. There’s no honest explanation for the sheer volume of them appearing.
Racists try to mask it with talk of patriotism and national pride, insisting it’s their right to fly the flag. Of course it is. No one is saying otherwise. But where was this overwhelming pride before? If it was genuine, you’d see flags flying all year round, not just spiking in moments that conveniently align with hostility toward outsiders. Patriotism isn’t seasonal. Pride in your country doesn’t appear and vanish depending on the political climate. The sudden wave of flags isn’t about love of country. It’s about sending a message, and that message is exclusionary.

Operation Raise the Colours: Bexley Council keeps flags
![]() In Bexley, St George’s flags will not be removed from buildings and lampposts unless they pose a health and safety risk to the public. The move follows a very popular national online movement called Operation Raise the Colours, which has seen flags appear on lampposts, buildings, and even mini roundabouts across England, prompting many councils to respond. Residents are encouraged to display flags responsibly A spokesperson for Sir Keir Starmer said the Prime Minister is “absolutely” in favour of people who put up English flags. |

The movement probably has been and will be hijacked by racists, but like the ice bucket challenge, you can't stop people from participating in an online craze. Last edited by Beso; 09-09-2025 at 03:58 PM. |
