Default Different School systems in Britain and Ireland.

Right, This is something that always confuses me. I live in Scotland and i am unaware how the English, Welsh, Northern Irish & Irish school Systems work. So if any one knows would they be able to explain. Its just one of them things that anoys me that i dont know.

The Scottish System is below for anyone who is unaware of that.

Before School
Nursery/Playgroup

Primary School
Primary 1
Primary 2
Primary 3
Primary 4
Primary 5
Primary 6
Primary 7

Secondary School
1st Year/Secondary 1
2nd Year/Secondary 2
3rd Year/Secondary 3 - I Sat my Englsih standard grade then, but i think that was only my school.
4th Year/Secondary 4 - Sit your Standard Grades
5th Year/Secondary 5 - Sit your Highers/Intermediates
6th Year/Secondary 6 - Sit your Advanced Highers/Highers & Intermediates.

After School
College/University.






Well i hope that is right ^. Or i iwll look stupid. LOL

The Junior Cert is more like the GSCE's and the Leaving Cert like the A-Levels as it determines whether you get into Uni or not. And 4th Year isn't always optional,its really just a doss year but you have 'opprontunities' but everyone just bums around for a year.

Its only primary and secondary thats compulsory. We then have sixth form/college etc but not everyone goes to sixth form, some straight into work and some into vocational courses at college.

In Wales, we have the same as England (the one Tom posted)

After year 11 there's lower and upper 6th (2 years) which are optional.. then college or uni or whatever you want to do
