And there lies the problem. He singing in a popular show and his music isn't popular by nature. And that type of music was even that popular in it's hay day.

What would be the point in him winning if he can't sell downloads and CD unless Simon is branching out into different music types and doesn't expect a lot of return on his £1 million contract.

Clearly he has the voice but does he have the ability to put opera style music into the charts?

Opera is one of the most popular forms of music, just because you don't always hear it on Radio 1 doesn't mean that it doesn't sell millions because it does. Plus opera songs have made it into the charts many times in the past, in recent years I believe Charlotte Church and Katherine Jenkins both have had operatic songs in the top 40. Not to mention all of Jenkins albums have gone it at number 1 in the Classical Album Charts, and her two latest albums reached 4 and 5 in the official UK Album Charts.
