He wasn't acquitted - as with a huge percentage of rape investigations in the UK, the police/prosecution service wimped out of proceeding with it for fear they couldn't proscute it successfully in court.

I do nornally say alleged rapist - but in any case, I take the view that he was guilty, but as I said above, the authorities felt it would be difficult to prosecute successfully in light of the way our judicial system operates.

There were a plethora of newpaper articles at the time which pointed to the trio's guilt, including videos on mobile phones.

It's sad that IF he did it, he got away with it ecause they "justice system" couldn't find a way of proving it so they just gave up.

It'll put women off reporting things like this if they think the system can't give them justice.

He wasnt acquitted, the police and Procurator Fiscal didnt proceed with the charge due to lack of evidence.

The victim asked to withdraw her original statement, the PF refused to accept that as they can, she then changed her statement.

The PF decided not to prosecute because the chances of the prosecution being successful was greatly reduced.

However the girls family accused those involved of trying to buy her off, when that failed of successfully intimidating her into changing her statement.

He never appeared in a court, he couldnt have been acquitted!!!

As I said he can sue me.

Keep your hair on

Somebody had already pointed it out

He was not found guilty of anything, so you cannot call him a rapist. Whether you think he is or not.

Actually I can!

I live in Scotland, the offence took place in Scotland and Scottish Law is a little different to English Law.

If Mr T wants to make anything of it, he can register a libel case with a Scottish Court, which he wouldnt do because its a civil case. Civil law goes on balance of evidence not proof beyond reasonable doubt.

I was just pointing out to someone they cannot refer to someone who has not been found guilty of an offence as if they had been

I dont care what country you're in you cant do it, especially on a public internet forum

If I wanted a lecture on Scottish Law I wouldnt be looking for it on here
